Yu-chun from three-piece band JYJ smiles during the group’s first concert “JYJ Worldwide Concert in Seoul” at the Olympic Main Stadium, Sports Complex, Saturday evening. Despite the chilly weather, some 30,000 fans cheered on for the band, but JYJ failed to fully satisfy high expectations due to poor preparations. Members of boy band JYJ may have made headlines with their departure from one of Korea’s most popular bands, TVXQ, and with their efforts in broadening their fan base, but it seems they will need to work on the basics: professionalism and consideration to the audience.
The three-member group — consisting of Yu-chun, Jae-joong and Jun-su— held its first concert “JYJ Worldwide Concert in Seoul” in freezing weather at the Olympic Main Stadium, Sports Complex, Saturday night.
It snowed and rained a bit in the morning, and although the weather seemed to get better during the day, it got chilly and very windy again as evening descended.
By the time the concert was scheduled to start, which was 7 p.m., the bare and open stadium was literally ice cold.
To make matters worse, the concert was delayed for an hour, which made even the most devoted fans a bit frustrated.
Around 7:20, the three members suddenly appeared on the stage, thanking the fans for coming and also expressing their condolences to the victims of Yeonpyeong Island, where a North Korean artillery attack took place on Nov. 23.
“We are sorry for the delay,” was all the members said regarding the delay and they left the stage, leaving the fans waiting in the cold for another 40 minutes, some shouting “come out!” and “why aren’t you coming out!”
When the show finally started, which was around 8:10 p.m., it seemed the fans forgot all about the icy temperatures and the delay, as they shouted the members’ names and waved bright red glow sticks in the air in perfect harmony.
The members performed songs from their first album “The Beginning.” The first track “Empty” was impressive, along with the other numbers, as the group managed to put on a great show despite the cold.
Their hands and noses were bright red from the wind, but this didn’t stop them from dancing and running around the stage, waving and shouting out to the screaming crowd. Each member had an individual stage as well, with Jae-joong’s sexy track “Still In Love,” Yu-chun’s ballad medley and Jun-su’s reinterpretation of “I Can Soar” with an orchestra playing in the backdrop.
The group also presented some new tracks as well, such as “Nine,” “Fallen Leaves” and “Mission Make it.”
When the intro for “Be My Girl Remix” came out of the speakers, the crowd shouted even more loudly and followed the groups’ dance moves perfectly. Yu-chun recently posted the video for the number’s choreography on his twitter, and the fans managed to learn the moves and display a memorable flash-mob experience for the three members.
After singing some 18 songs, the members left the stage with the fans continuously shouting out their names. But JYJ, despite the fans who had waited for some freezing 10 minutes after their departure, didn’t return to give an encore.
Overall, the show was fun and entertaining. JYJ’s agency explained that the concert was produced by creative director Jeri Slaughter, who worked with Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera, but there was nothing extraordinary.
Laser shows, fireworks and unique installations have been around in the pop idol concert scene for quite some time; there’s even been pianos held up in the air and members flying over their fans on wires.
The two big screens on each side of the main stage was impressive, but it was not enough for the fans who sat in the back as it mostly offered full shots instead of close ups. Due to the frigid weather, the three singers also had a challenging time singing their songs, which mostly included their signature powerful dance choreography.
The concert’s stage effects would have been a bit better if they went on with their original plan in covering the open ceiling with a specially-made dome, but due to the grueling weather, this plan was scrapped.
Scrapping the dome was not only a regrettable incident for JYJ, but also for the fans as well. The tickets for the concert ranged from 110,000 won to 198,000 won, and concert organizers explained that the cost was a bit high due to the special effects, including the dome. Tickets for a concert held by SM Entertainment at the same venue cost 11,000 won to 88,000 won, a lot less expensive than JYJ’s.
In the end, fans had to pay full price for something they didn’t get to see, had to wait over an hour in the freezing cold without getting a clear explanation, plus were unable to enjoy an encore with the band.
It would have been hard for any experienced band or artist to perform in such adverse conditions, but it would have been more professional to prepare for the unexpected, especially if it was being held in late November, at an open and exposed stadium and charging a lot of money for seats.

Wow I didn’t realize the huge price gap of SM concert and JYJ concert O.o;;
This article is maybe not so good to hear but if you review everything based on the facts provided, then probably it’s not right to overly defend the concert’s organizer.

I really don’t like this article. It is so totally SME biased.

Exactly. The writer’s not very objective.

no he/she’s not. The comparison to SME basically proved to me that this was their doing.
This reporter is stupid. They say that they scrapped the dome, as if to say that they couldn’t be bothered. This was not the case. The should have emphasized that the dome WAS in fact constructed but due to natural disaster it was damaged. I hate this. If you are going to report, be honest and stop trying to make them look as though they lied to the fans. I can completely understand why Junsu cried when he saw the dome came down…he must have known that people would attack them in this fashion.
All the other foolishness that was mentioned was so trivial…like a kid trying to pick a fight. Ugh! this reporter needs to go back to school, or better yet become a novelist seeing as though she/he likes to make up stories..

The crappy thing is…this is actually quite tame compared to the sports newspapers articles on the concert. I read one that said the concert was no different from the showcase, except with worse sound and lighting. The Korea Times is a mainstream news source so it bitches relatively less.

It’s not like they can predict the hail and control the weather. Who would have known the weather wouldn’t cooperate. It’s harder for them, you can see how cold it is but they still performed well.

Yes… it could be hurtful
but IMO, all the ‘negative’ or ‘positive’ opinions about them could be a positive feedback for them.
I see this news as an opinion from a ‘non fan’ so there’s no slightly emotional feeling involved.
They stated the fact… yet I could see that they didn’t blame the boys.
They said that the boys gave impressive performance, did the best in spite of bad weather, and so…
They just said the management fail…
It’s winter… so there must be a lot consideration about making a concert in a open stadium.
They had plan about the covered stadium… but they should have thought about any possibilities that could occur during the time of the month in the winter… that there might be hail and strong wind and freezing condition, etc.
Not all the audience are avid fans of the boys…
Many could understand and will forgive and forget… but some might not.
The boys’ management clearly offered the spectacular show for them… and it’s canceled, so yeah some must be disappointed because some might buy the ticket because of this reason.
I wonder, beside the statement from the members, are there official statement from the PR to describe the situation and maybe apologize for the inconvenience coz of the nature ‘hazard’. Though it’s uncontrollable (force majeure) factors? At least by doing this they can show they really care about the feeling of the ticket buyers…
It’s sad… yeah.
So many difficulties, problems, hardships must be faced by the boys…
I just hope that they will stay strong…
that they will never thought of givin up.
What Jae said on his twitter really touched my heart…
They really show how much they care about the fans…
We just hope that in the future they (the management and the team) will be doing much better

i didnt hear a single bad comment from the attendees.. I have lotsa korean friends who attend this showcase.. and some of them just a casual listeners.. BUT they said the concert were AWESOME.. none were complaint about the tix price !!!
the cover collapsed because of weather… not the boys fault.. Do you want to blame the God…?
The one who need to work on the professionalism is not them.. BUT YOU Bullshit journalist!!!
Since you were a media.. YOU HAVE MEDIA PASS to attend the concert… SO WHY whining about the tix price when YOU CAN PUT YOUR STINK ASS for FREE?

The article is overly harsh in its criticisms for factors the group could not control, but it does make one valid point…JYJ’s management is FAIL. They should have had a plan B long before the morning of. It’s probably because they didn’t that the audience was made to wait one hour.
I’ve always wondered why they signed with CJes…I’ve been living in Korea ten years now and I’ve NEVER heard of this company. At first, I thought they were with CJ and I was all excited because CJ Ent. is chaebol, the one thing SM fears since it’s the one thing SM can’t be. But I suppose the boys have their reasons…At least their PR team is doing amazing (so far).

If U say that I think there are no one die in Disater e.g: Flood, storm….in Philip, China, VietNam beacause it’s forecasted from hydrometeorology. Every country’s also have Plan A, B, C, D.. to protect people from bad weather, but in the end lot of people died. JYJ’s Management did their best for the boys. Don,t blame them.
Why don’t you wonder other company dare to sign w them?, If do that SM ‘ll knock out that company, Only Cjes dare to do that, they also suffer dirty trick from SM,we should them !right!
Sorry, My english is bad!
By: monkey on November 29, 2010
at 4:34 pm
I think I get the gist of what you’re saying, and so your english can’t be that bad ^^.
Look, I too was prepared as anyone out there to give CJes a chance because what you say is true. There is practically no entertainment company with the exception of those run by chaebol–CJ Ent, whose CEO is Samsung founder’s granddaughter, and Mnet and DSP Ent, both of which are linked to Samsung through shareholder deals–that would dare go against SM. I truly admire CJes for that. But I have yet to see a well-managed project from them…in other words, CJes’ balls seem to be bigger than their competence. I think the last straw for me was the US showcases disaster. I don’t think I need to go into how disappointing the management of that was. Prain, their PR company, on the other hand have produced truly commendable accomplishments despite facing the same challenges.
For me, the jury is still well out on their management.

But i think this article would become quite slap to wake up their management company. I just want their management to become more professional. yes, bad weather can’t be avoided but i agree that may be JYJ could give encore or something for the fans.
And they are so many complains from showcase until concert. This article also very unprofessional to compare them with SM (which is now a very sensitive issue) but yes this article also have right fact that can’t be ignored. I just hope C-jess aware of it. I don’t wanna my boys have bad image because of this mess. And JYJ as sweet as u boys can be please choose ur management company well.

at 5:43 pm
Yeah… I forgot to mention that the worst thing from the journalist is that they have to compare this concert and SM Concert. They should just stated ‘fact’ and did no comparison!!!
About encore…
it’s freezing, they might not want to give the encore since they’ve already let the audience to wait longer before the show start. They might re-appeared and said thanks once again and explained that they couldn’t do the encore because of that reason and said thanks once again…
ah, dunno… coz I wasn’t there…

I just wish the boys good luck.

I know what you mean.
But in this case, I believe JYJ went to through enough hardships and obstacles to make their first own concert alive.
This should be recognized by any “good” journalist.
Those articles don’t need to praised everything but at least be objective and recognized the hard work those three guys and their team had put on for this show to comes true.
Now JYJ are standing on their own feets, they have the freedom to create their songs and concerts as they want it to be, but also they have to care for everything as well. Of course they have a team, who is standing them by and help them to realize those dreams, but we all know CJes is not a huge company like those SME, JYP, Avex etc.
CJEs don’t have a horde of staff for every section, that’s why some few people have to care for lots of tasks and functions, therefor errors and misunderstandings arised as we have seen.
Instead of giving them hard critisism and look down at them because of some errors, we should try to understand their situation abit and give them the credits they deserved!
DON’T YOU SEE? 3 guys and a small team have put on an international album, numorous showcases throughout Asia and in the US, now starting their first big concert. All their hard works they did to make all these possible throughout this year, people easily forget it all.
It’s easy to criticise what you see, but to understand all those immense works behind, can you?
Before putting critics on your mouth, please everyone should take some time to ask yourself, do you criticise them to put them down, or do you criticise to help them improved. Words can hurt alot. I believe the boys had enough of that.

i have to agree with jimmie re: Cjes. it’s like they shout big but their delivery is just FAIL costing JYJ money. hopefully, it won’t cost them their image. and of all places, this concert HAD to be perfect as it’s in Korea! it should have been flawless and they should have forseen any and all issues with holding a concert outside in Nov in KOREA. ug.
By: &hearts on November 30, 2010

I agree with you
In spite of how i like the boys the article did state true facts apart from the comparison to SM town which was valid in my opinion. CJES management has been very unproffesional and lacking at times and it costing the boys alot. People my disagree but CJES may end up destroying the boys with the way they are running things . As a management they should have the foresight to see ahead and have back up plans for any foreseeable mishaps that may happen but they failed in that arena which is very crucial- they can’t plan ahead.
Also i understand the comparison to SM town, jyj used to be in SM and the fans, media etc were used to high level management and planning but jyj’s concerts have been lacking in that arena. People would except in spite of leaving SM they should maintain that high level of management, planning and concerts they had when they were still in SM. They are placed on a high pedestal because of tvxq and quite frankly they should maintain the same professionalism, quality that they had or they will loose fans, damage their image etc
So in spite of all the anger fans have towards the writer am quite happy that he told the truth and that CJES and JYJ should take the criticism and improve upon because the same mistakes have been happening over and over again and its going to cost them. So i hope its a wake call to CJES and JYJ that they need to drastically improve.

The author has totally left out the detail that the HAIL destroyed the roof & they had to remove to roof for the audience’s safety.
The author only said: “The concert’s stage effects would have been a bit better if they went on with their original plan in covering the open ceiling with a specially-made dome, but due to the grueling weather, this plan was scrapped”, which made it sound like the concert organizer didn’t carry on the plan AT ALL, while in fact the ceiling was already installed days before & ready to go, it’s just that an unexpected natural disaster, that human have no control of, damaged it.
And I rise my eyebrows at this sentence as well: “they will need to work on the basics: professionalism and consideration to the audience”
Not I need PRAIN to step up & say something about this!

Funny how the writer didn’t even consider the amount of sponsors they get. I’m pretty sure SME concert had more sponsors than The Beginning Concert.

there will always be good and bad criticisms…
especially when the boys do not have backing of an influential entertainment company like SME. and SME had LOADS of sponsors as well…
the boys were up for a new challenge and i believe they pulled it off really well…
the hail was something that no one could have predicted, and i’m sure the boys wouldn’t let such news affect them, cos it’s not worth it at all..
we’ve all seen how the korean media has responded to JYJ so far, and much of it aint’ pretty, but whatever it is, the fans have their hearts with the boys and that’s all that matters, and i’m sure all that were there had the time of their lives…

I suppose it’s thrilling for journalists to write something ‘critical’ like this? XD
But in all fairness, they are just starting as a new group, they need feedback from the members of the general public – negative and positive alike – so they can plan better – if they want to survive the industry. They also need this kind of news to plan their future PR strategies. And face it, they are controversial to start with – especially with TVXQ and SM’s problems hanging on their coat tails all the time. It’s bound to be difficult from time to time.

Sorry I just had to share. John Mayer had a concert here a few months ago and it was raining so hard and it was open ground but no one complained and nobody gave any negative write up on it. In fact, the press i my country was rather amazed that the fans still attended bec it was really raining so hard and has been raining like crazy before the concert.
My point is, shouldn’t the writer praise JYJ’s fame instead because it was clearly frigid and I think I read someone said it was starting to snow and there was a hail before the concert but 35,000 fans still attended to support them. And I heard the concert rocked.

They have prepared the Dome ceiling for special effects, those were destroyed by natural disaster but it still cost a lot. There were Americans in the Production team including the foreign dancers which they have to provide lodging, food, pay, transport, training places, etc. NO SPONSORS at all… that add up a lot to their costs of Production… which is why the tickets are pricey… which I don’t they they left any profit. They didn’t even do advertisements. It is UNFAIR to compare at all…
They did their best in setting up the changes of the stage in a few hours to make up for the lost special effects… It’s commendable. We should be proud and thankful that they managed to pull through thanks to their Production team. And no major incidents happened due to the sudden change of weather. Be thankful

You can’t compare their ticket price with big companies’. Basically, if you’re not big enough to have your own manpower and produce much enough products, your price wil be absolutely high. Their cost is high compared to other big companies. And ofcourse they also have less sponsors.
And I think the laser thing is nothing. I’ve attended many concerts of SM and I have to say that their special effect cannot make me impressed except the boys. Don’t talk about the sound. it’s just so suck.
At least my two friends attended JYJ’s concert and they said it’s the best concert they’ve ever seen. No need to care much about the media.
And you know, the ticket prices in Kore are are even cheper than in my country.

Harsh articles are to be expected. Just roll with it. Media is media. However:
“The concert’s stage effects would have been a bit better if they went on with their original plan in covering the open ceiling with a specially-made dome, but due to the grueling weather, this plan was scrapped.”
^
“…would have been a bit better…” So the journalist has seen the special effects and original production already while JYJ were rehearsing? Otherwise, this comment is absolutely baseless.
“…but due to grueling weather, this plan was scrapped.” Written in such a way that implies that production purposefully discarded the idea. Incorrect fact therefore discredit to the journalist. From what I’m led to believe, JYJ reported that hail ruined the dome, forcing them to remove it due to the DANGER it poses. Unless insider of insiders report otherwise, I’m sticking by JYJ on this.
I’m not analyzing the rest of this. The only part I can agree with was the lack of backup plan (which resulted in an emergency that shouldn’t have been an emergency, which raises flags in my head that they’re rushing too fast) but that’s it. This article is trying to create controversies with the whole unnecessary SM comparison to get more page reads. I can smell the stench.

There was a picture of the installed ceiling a few days ago. So yes, the production DID go along with the plan. It’s just that the unexpected hail destroyed it T__T

Exactly.
Man…I know this idea is SUPER IMMATURE (and I normally won’t give this a fleeting thought but I blame it on lack of sleep and hormones) but it makes me wanna write a long angry comment in English (if they allow commenting on their page) stressing that international fans are always watching. Time and time again I’ve seen unfair media reporting (and not just JYJ but others – Tablo incident, anyone? – I’m not familiar with Rain, but I hear fans crying outrage over the report on gambling lawsuit issue too).
Always this fear of losing the Hallyu wave. WELL. You’re damaging the so-called Hallyu wave on your own by biased reporting, K-media – of course, not that other countries are immune to biased news reporting, but Korean media, who seems to care that much more about their image, should know that there are people watching them – people that they want to make a good impression on. Blegh.
JYJ is known to have international fans too so I don’t get it. Are K-media honestly trying to drive out JYJ from their own country by doing minimal reporting and criticism – some which attack character (which shouldn’t be in ‘news’ but in an opinionated review) – when JYJ attempts to do more?
By: asterfall on November 29, 2010

if they really want to “critic”… they can write something like the cover for the dome is collapsed… they need to think plan B before the concert just in case something like this happened… but anyway, the concert still continue and they give their best performance that night…
but this article not article to critic the boys.. but this is article specially made to bash them!

I think, in this situation, it’s not easy to find anyone/any company in Korea who dares to work with JYJ and I think our boys are lucky enough to have their team right now. (At the moment) CJeS seems to be true friends and the boys seem to be happy.
**
In the future, hope CJeS/JYJ’s team will make thing better and better for the boys.
The concert was really amazing and fans were also amazing!!! We can have more beautiful dome next time. ^^
** btw I don’t see any need to mention SM in the article, wondering how much he gets paid from SM??
By: noriihana on November 29, 2010

I agree with you.
Seems like CJeS really take good care of the boys. It’s not easy to find company who willing to spend their efforts for faceless singers & get bashed from the fans if something went wrong.

sad but true. also the prices shouldn’t be compared because obviously SME would have more sponsors for the concert and maybe even a “discounted” price or something for stadium rental fees (since it’s obvious that they have strong connections).
Failure to mention that the dome was taken down b/c of hail is…unprofessional. Writer either didn’t do his job to understand the context of all the fixes or decided to omit that info.
I agree about having a Plan B in place would’ve been better but WTF is that line questioning their professionalism and consideration of fans…0.o
By: DBSJRocks on November 29, 2010

If JYJ & their staff deserved any criticism, it would be their lack of plan B.
How dare this fxxker (excuse my language) say that the boys need to work on “professionalism and consideration to the audience”?!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Jaejoong, Junsu and Yoochun aren’t professional and have no consideration for the audience, I don’t know WHO are/have!!!!!
If this fxxker (excuse me again) had left out this one line, I’d likely have actually found this article ‘fair’. But no, the author’s total failure and made the most wrongful accusation, and it seriously pissed me off!!!

The article is harsh, but its statements aren’t unfounded. JYJ’s management is ridiculous and JYJ themselves have to shoulder some of the blame as well. I hope the boys do in fact read this and that they grow from the criticism. Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu are grown men now, they have to roll with the punches maturely.
I’m always the first person to call SME out on shady business, but it’s pathetic to blame them this time around. The article writer isn’t biased, they’re just stating the facts.

No, seriously, I will do that.
About the price of the tickets… Check out the 45-minutes-long Singapore showcase's ticket prices…
“Yu-chun recently posted the video for the number’s choreography on his twitter”
… Need me to conclude about the reliability of it? (: Or did they make the same mistake as JJ did during the Saipan vacation? (calling Yoochun ‘Junsu-sshi, OMG I laughed for hours at YC’s reaction)

i think this concert was better compared to their previous concerts. plus, the dancers were really great and had good choreography. They even had an orchestra, people hanging, and I thought it was well presented. And, the boys don’t have alot of sponsors like sme so of course their tickets would be more. I also love the songs and they sounded awesome.
By: 666 on November 29, 2010
at 3:50 pm
yeah, agree. i will pay for them to sing (with or without a mic) too. who care abt the effects???? Can anybody tell me he/she went for the concert because JYJ promised there would be a ‘Dome’???? Anybody feel being cheated for not having the ‘dome’ as he/she ‘has paid’ for the price ??
Come on, we are talking abt music, we are talking abt art, we are talking abt the ppl we love & support for the musician we like. Of course i dont deny they can do better in the future, but it doesn’t mean that i want a better laser or fireworks effects.
Aahhh, i guess the idiot who wrote the article won’t understand it. All he/she care about is “the weather is cold…the show was fun and entertaining”. Actually i am quite sick with this “fun & entertaining”…our boys concert is not for fun & entertainment, it is a performance, OK!? About professionalism and consideration to the audience?? Mind your own business first as I think this is what you need most, Mr./Ms. journalist. I can understand if the idiot said the boys are inexperience and a lot of things to learn from but it has nothing to do with their professinalism.

Why it should be compare to SM Concert? Is it because JYJ used to be under SM?
They should compare this concert to other concerts that had been held in Korea also: the ticket price, the venue, the attendance.
For faceless singers to held 2 days concert with 35,000 attendance in day 1 is quite amazing. Especially these faceless singers can’t appear in TV or radio music program to promote their songs. They can only promote the concert mostly by Twitter, Internet & Fans Forum. Even newspapers seem hesitate to inform about the concert.
Seems like someone or a company paid this reporter to write this article, since it’s totally bias.

So their points are…
-ticket was too expensive
-weather was no good (too cold)
-the show could have been better with original plan (roof)
-the delay
-boys are unprofessional
Hey Korea time, JYJ could have had postpone their concert due to weather(hail)/S.Korea’s problem with N.Korea to avoid this kind of media news by you and other but they didn’t. They still did it for the fans who wanted/could go to see them (some may wanted to go but can’t due to exam & weather).
Your review not only look down on jyj but also “their fans“.

sad to hear ‘most’ or ‘few’ korean journalist have already had bad negative remarks for JYJ even before the concert. they take the opportunity and plus it off wit the Dome roof top and delay as an excused.
Sad to see korean media still lack behind….the way they preceived and thinking is is not even near par with western journalism. most of it just crap for to get money..even hurting, dirt ppl/star/artist.
the writer (korean) just sold off JYJ for adoption. he/she sounded like living in the year of barbarian… where the competition to get food is to kill each other, even if it your own countrymen. did they ever realise, IT- Technology is fast, what you wrote or say, within second, all over the world will read and know.
In relation to the above, JYJ is well known all over asia and part of the world. Sad to see this writer negative remarks toward their own people. Even we the international fan support proud of jyj. jyj own ppl, countrymen, only know how to badmouth the trio.
anyway, for me jyj give all out thru this concert. my 100% proud of the boys.

F***! I can feel anger in my veins now! The boys are blamed for the freaking bad weather?!! Or artists shouldn’t hold concerts at all during winter to avoid the unexpected? As far as I know, the sudden hail storm messed up their original preparation, which was probably the cause of the delay. But the concert started on time on the 2nd night, why didn’t this article mention it? Which Cassie would give a damn about the dome, the laser, or other things. True fans only need to see JYJ on stage, don’t those stupid reporters get that? >”<
This concert is like a come-back stage for JYJ in Korea, being on their own. They did their best & sang their hearts out for fans. Yet, the media doesn't appreciate it or at least give them neutral response. Instead, they try to dig up & criticize even the smallest thing! JYJ don't have big sponsors or company behind their back, shouldn't the media at least give them some encouragement? About the ticket price, in the U.S if not because of the visa problem, we would still spend $200 to attend their 1-hr showcase ok?
All in all, I'm never fond of C-JES because their mistakes or negligence have hurt the boys' reputation for quite some times already. I hope they can find a better management company to work with in the near future. T__T
By: love_DBSJ on November 29, 2010

I agree, it’s sad that they don’t get at least 2 or 3 interviews about their concerts like they did in the past. I feel that korea is looks down on the boys when other praise them. And, I also feel that korean media is very much runned by money because jyj is one of the top album sellers in korea so I don’t get why they aren’t invited to do variety, music shows in korea, and interiews. Anyways, I luv the direction they are going musically so I hope they continue to do what they love.
By: lin on November 29, 2010

JYJ doesn’t get promotion because of SME. SME has so much clout in Korea that no program would want to risk putting them on. I think the reason that some of Korea might look on them is simply manipulation by SME. SME cannot simply just let the boys go. They have got to be little vindictive kids about it and try to ruin JYJ’s lives.
By: lara on November 29, 2010
at 9:32 pm
They always find someting negative to blame them…but this is weather for God’s sake! yes the tickets are expensive because of the roof but unfortunatelly becuase of the weather they couldn’t use the roof. These kind of problems and delays can happen in every concert.
Why metion SM by the way? I don’t like it.
Their performance was smooth and songs are good then what?
They even mentioned the encore, They have sang 18 songs right? what encore? do you want to kill them?
The only negative thing I can say here is the time of the concert. They can make it on March or April, at a warm weather but I guess they trusted the roof so they made it in November so..there is nothing I can say more.
aynway…there will be these kind of negative things all the time but they won’t defeated we know that. There are lots of people who loves them.

che…. as if TVXQ don’t know the basics.. they are there for a long time even though they are using JYJ now NO ONE CAN CHANGE the FACT that these 3 is part of TVXQ together with Yunho and Changmin love… and when we are talking about TVXQ they are PROFESSIONALS! they are the gods on this industry of course they know the basics duuhh.. hahaha… and together with them is the godess of FANGIRLING CASSIOPEIA… who is genderless so FANBOYING is included hahahahahhahahahha…

Hey maybe the report is accurate after all, that the bad weather and the cold was caused by JYJ. They’re sposed to be gods right? So maybe they know how to control the weather so that the thousands and thousands of cassies will freeze at the concert! Or maybe its a conspiracy by the blanket sellers perhaps? LOL
But that aside, I read that the poor boys were really freezing themselves on stage. No blanket, no hand warmers, no cassies to hug for warmth. They were apparently seen shivering and had a hard time singing their best in the frigid wind. But everyone could see they were trying their best!
And eventhough the cold weather was no fault of theirs, they apologised profusely. And I dunno why it looks as if they are solely to be blamed when much of the organisation work is the company’s responsibility. The boys already looked ultra professional to me.
Such a BIASED report!! Pui!!

I just needed to read one paragraph of this article to know that the publication must be paid for by SME.
The Korean Entertainment Industry isn’t very healthy and SME is the most cut-throat of all the agencies. They don’t treat their artists like human beings because it’s all about the money and the success. TVXQ is one of their biggest and best brands ever. I say brand for a reason. Because SME sees the five boys as money making tools. And not humans. That’s why JYJ left. They had enough. HoMin probably stayed for reasons that I honestly don’t want to know about. It probably isn’t very nice.
I am serious, just to get even more ranty – look at how many artists have tried to get away from SME – H.O.T. (JTL) (and the only reason Kangta stayed was because he is an SME shareholder. Same with BoA. There is a big difference between them and the regular artist at SME), Shinhwa, Han Geng and our boys.
JYJ cannot control the weather, and it’s a miracle that the concert went on. That’s how professional these boys are.
I hope that the Korean fans get to read other reviews than this obviously-paid-for-by SME review. That’s the problem that our boys face in Korea – most of the media is being paid by SME.
I apologise to anyone reading this – I know this has just become an SME rant now, but seriously, this article reeks of SME. It makes me sick.

As a fan of H.O.T, I can only tell you…you best be praying HARD that the same thing doesn’t happen to DBSK. If history repeats itself, SM will offer Yunho and Changmin shares of the company. The minute they do you can kiss a DBSK reunion goodbye for at least a good ten years. >.<
*sigh* And I was hoping Shinhwa's success in getting out spelled an end to this cycle

no need to apologise. That how EVIL SME are. IT not easy to organize an event, months of preparation, sleepless night, going thru every details, an experienced event coordinator..they will always ‘murphy law’ syndrom…we cannot pre-see/ what going to happen on actual day. especially, when thing beyond our control like the weather, natural disaster. It not a wise choice to have plan A or Plan B – change of venue, most likely on the day itself, not a good decision . JYJ have two choices a) to proceed with the concert or b) to cancel it. i believe that JYJ did considered those international fan that came to korea, spending their money on airfare. and they(JYJ) promise to their fan…they decided to proceed.
i attended few international star/artist concert, hey one hour delay is normal. some big star even longer that them or worst getting x’cel.
again the writer is SM dongkey….dongkey slave.

Ok, I get what this journalist wanna say but seriously since it’s the international album and from what I understand is that they wanna walk out from SM shadow and I guess they didn’t expect anything to be so EXTRAVEGANSA…you can tell from the name of the group ‘JYJ’ it’s simple just that. So, I don’t think so much of all those Boom Bang Boom effect or whatsoever is needed.
Give them a chace to prove themselves, if you don’t count all the years they’ve been in DBSK this can consider as their very first new beginning. Any mistakes may occur at any moment. Give them a room to breath man…..don’t just expect everything to be like all the concert in Korea.
This is only my 2 cents.

Heres my fast two cents on this article.
1. They DID prepare by putting up a roof to keep fans warmer, and it would have shielded fans from most of the rain and snow if it did.
2. It hailed. Who the hell predicts HAIL? How often does HAIL come down? And they couldn’t have done anymore against the weather, because of korean safety laws.
It was bad luck on a dice roll. End of story. They couldn’t have done anymore than they did.

This assh*** is a lier too. The tickets were selling for 55.000-135.000 won (153.000 for VIP, don’t remember the exact price, but it was defin. 15*.000, not higher than that). Where this piece of sh** took “110,000 won to 198,000 won”??
Or is that the price SM paid him to write this crap?

Around 65-66.000 of tickets were sold for both days, the first day had a couple of thousands more people than the second. I took this number judging by how many tickets were left unsold out of 100.000 – less than 17.000 for the first day and about 18.000 for the second.

But seriously, what SM artist except for TVXQ has such a selling power? None! Who’s able to sell without promotions? None! Hence the butthurt feeling in SM managament.

i feel like crying…i hate articles like this that just could’nt seem to appreciate what the musicians nowadays do.
they only focus on all the negative parts and blaming the musicians for everything.
Weather goes bad which resulted in the special effects plan cancelled and thus resulting in the delay is also JYJ’s fault?
its just mother’s nature, what has JYJ got to do with it -.-
but i guess what we fans can be proud of is that we know JYJ did well, they tried their hardest to put a good show for the fans.

Even in shipping there is a force majeure clause for god sake -*-
It’s not like every winter you’ll have the hail storm…not blizzard but hail people!
Phew…if it’s hail storm…sm would just friggin cancel it…they cancelled the thing for no friggin reason before -*-
knowing that compare it with sm would make a controversy still they brought it up duh~
True…there’s no special effect but you gotta use your brain and actually think why it is like that…put yourself in their shoes and think!
They are not harry potter that can just hold a wander muttering some friggin magic and the roof is done…
If they could climb up and hold the roof and protect it…they would do it but guess what? though you put 1000 people up there the roof would be ruined still.
You know I know people love criticize others…but I would love to hear more on suggestion.
These people should suggest ‘how to protect the roof from that damn hail storm’!
I’m pissed!

Isn’t it remarkable that despite the scary situation at the border, so many foreign fans bravely came to Seoul to support JYJ? To be fair, I don’t think any kind of preparation would have withstood horrible weather. We saw from the pre-concert pictures of the venue that a marquee/makeshift “ceiling” was installed over the open stadium but this was unfortunately ripped apart the night before. Packs of ice littered the stadium ground as evidence of how the ceiling couldn’t hold up to the strong wind and hail. JYJ was more than apologetic about this and Jaejung explained in his twitter that it would have taken 3 days to reinstall the marquee. So I imagine, if it took three days to install the makeshift roof, they had to rush all day to take out all the ripped covering hanging about so as not to endanger anybody. Thankfully, there was a plastic block covering under the chairs to keep the wetness of the ground from our feet and protect us from the slippery ground, and the concert crew handed out heating packs as we entered the stadium. The stage was beautiful and I loved the big screens since these allowed us people at the back to see more of JYJ. Honestly I would have loved an encore performance, but I appreciated the insight on JYJ’s part of not keeping us in the cold a moment longer. It would have been horrifying to miss the last train and fight for a cab in the freezing cold with the thousands of concert goers. Lastly, I admit that because of the bad effects of the harsh weather and concern over the border crisis, there seemed to be a pall on the concert mood on Saturday night. Therefore, I find it very professional of JYJ that despite the strange mood at the beginning, they bravely moved forward and performed beautifully for their fans. As I sat shivering in my seat, I kept thinking JYJ must be feeling colder up there on the stage in the beautiful but thin material of their costumes. But not once did they show through their actions that they were suffering from the cold. Instead, they kept thinking of their fans being cold. JYJ is more than worth it. My only regret is that I didn’t come to the site earlier and the JYJ official goods ran out before I can get them. I would have loved a souvenir concert tee at least.

here’s the thing?
why in the world would a newspaper article would go and compare ticket prices EVEN MORE COINCIDENTALLY WITH SM?
Seriously? of all the recent concerts that was going on they JUST had to pick out SM?
I can understand they want to prove a point about the pricing was expensive but I didn’t that the fans was upset about it.
Correct me if I’m wrong about this small info but while jyj had about ~80,000 fans attended their concert, didn’t SM only had like ~30-40,000 attended with the ‘so low’ ticket prices?
By: anonymous on November 30, 2010

Well I’m actually not that mad about the article.
I think is good for them to read harsh criticism because it will help them improve. I know there are things that escape their control such as the weather, but a good organization may help them in the future to overcome some drawbacks
And the journalist said their performance was really good; even those who claim the venue wasn’t good, can’t complain about their skills and how good they are, they can make people forget about the freezing whether, the roff, the price and whatever

How could he fail to mention that the dome cover was damaged by the hail? Seems like he had his headline before making the story.
I wonder if the SM concert prices are accurate. When they performed in LA they weren’t priced like that.
Surely this concert will be held in other countries. We have to support them strongly to change the Korean medias’ mistreatment.
By: Lisa on November 30, 2010

The ticket prices vary according to how many sponsors they can get. Of course SME can get more sponsors in South Korea so their tickets would cost less. JYJ has been all but black balled thanks to SME threatening to pull their other artists out of things if a company works with JYJ so sponsors are very hard to come by. Regardless, they are worth any price and we all know it.

This.. is just the type of article that makes people think of JYJ badly if they don’t know the story. I think I may totally believe it if someone told me this writer was paid by SM to do this or something!!!!
The writer even mentioned that JYJ was all cold and frozen up, but tried their best anyway. What does that tell you about professionalism and what did he call it? oh, consideration for the audience. Yeah, it may have been cold but the dome wouldn’t have helped that much with it anyway. But both were due to weather! I have been obsessed with Korean music for years, but never saw an artist who controlled the weather to comfort their fans. Even if I wasn’t K-pop obsessed, I would hear about it, you see. So would the whole world. Jaejoong has in fact been warning the people through twitter.
Also, all the points that this article makes about the quality of the concert fails to praise the things that JYJ has done fantastically, and the writer speaks as if JYJ had promised something EXTRAORDINARY, like a dragon popping out from below the stage to do a fire show or something. He or She compares JYJ’s concert to other concerts, pointing out that it wasnt anything ‘new.’ Well, you see mr or ms biased, that’s as far as technology seems to go these days. It seems like he or she is saying “well this person won a gold medal, but there are many (as in like more than 10..) that win gold medals every year, so its no big deal”
Over priced tickets? Does JYJ eat it all?
Plus, think about the free concerts they ran in NY and CA!
But I do agree that the concert organizers should have done something to make up for the events and comfort the fans might have had with the dome..
either way, the fans were willing to pay the price. i dont think people complained.. why should you, mr or ms editor dude..
WAIT. second to last paragraph.
……………what.
its like.. “so the fans had an amazing night despite all the issues, but im going to point out the worst parts of the concert because of course, issues never happen in life, right?”
PHEW. done my rant.

A lot of people say that they should make a plan B, but failed to realize that most concerts don’t have Plan B, they either just postpone or cancel if natural disaster appear. JYJ chose to perform in cold weather rather than doing those. That’s professionalism. Even if it was delayed, they went out and perform, that’s better than hearing it being postpone in a few days(some people have other plans, and they make plan for that day to be at the concert) or cancel and getting your money back. (Some will feel that they went for nothing, even though they get their money back.)
I think in terms of staging, they could’ve done better, but they’re probably exceed their budget, getting those fabrics to have a dome effect is costly. And I saw a picture in one of the rehearsal picture, there was going to be lasers a top the dome(fabric) and it look so cool, but we can’t blame them because of the natural disaster. It would have been amazing if it wasn’t for the weather. But then again, comparing it to SME is actually very funny, because SME concert never changes in staging. It’s always the same shit. And they have sponsors, so it’s cheap and I bet, SME wouldn’t even care about the student who take exams and give them discount.
Oh well, there is always next time for a better staging.
Oh yeah, the table talk thing is so cool, when they play with the touch table. I think they should bring in more cool gadgets to their concert, even better if they stage it like a fantasy place hehehe.
By: Hazied on November 30, 2010

Actually, other concerts don’t have a backup plan for their concert, if natural disaster happened, they just postponed or canceled it, something that I see SME would do LOL. JYJ has a lot of professionalism in them to continue the freaking concert despite bad weather and still put on a fucking show, they wore minimalist clothes and breathed out smoke when they talk, yet still kept a happy face while singing perfectly. Not to mention their dancers, omg, those poor girls wearing such such minimalist clothes in such weather. That’s professionalism for you! And the fans are amazing too, omg they stay in the cold, participate when they were ask to. I would totally go to the concert just to watch the interaction of the performers with their fans. In this case, JYJ and their fans, as well as their dancers. Everything looks perfect to me. And I only watch this through fancams, imagine what I would feel like being their. Would probably jump up and down while feeling butterfly in my stomach and so excited despite it being cold.

I think this reporter was making bad reviews on JYJ Concert because he / she had his / her ass freezing in cold just for this assignment. hahahhahaha
I was so angry yesterday when I first read this article. But now, I’m more calm & getting myself to think that what more important is how the fans felt / thought about the concert. It (the concert) was dedicated for JYJ fans, not for some reporters who didn’t even know JYJ & what JYJ had gone through. Of course good review from media would be helpful to promote JYJ. But who needs promotion when they are already in our hearts ?

from:http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/290149/jyj-attracts-70000-fans-twoday-concert
(from manila bulletin, Philippines)
take note, media from the phillippines has a better view of the of the scenario than the korean media…maybe the writer from the korean times has some hidden agenda thus intentionally deleting some facts that could rationalize why those problems concerning the concert occur… but anyway intelligent populace nowadays are more open-minded and rationale, they don’t absorb everything what media is feeding to them..

No matter what they say the concert was a success. They weren’t the ones attending the concert so they are just wasting their time complaining about nothing. The ones attended the concert are happy, any reporter writing articles like this are just jealous of JYJ who can captivate the audiences still without that stupid roof and weather.
