Kim Chang Won of Daewoo Securities Co. Ltd. Research Center stated, “The current situation is a good opportunity to buy,” and “SM has at least 50 billion Won in cash reserves, so they will be able to easily cover a 3 billion Won compensation lawsuit.”
“Their second quarter sales will exceed the ballpark figure,” and “In the third quarter, SHINee and BoA’s domestic activities, Girls Generation’s Japanese activities and Super Junior M’s Chinese activities will reap great rewards.”

The representative from Daewoo has to say this statement since lots of buyer asking whether the SME’s stocks are still profitable or not.
Buyers need this kind of statement since the stocks already decreased since the boys fill in the lawsuit not mentioned that Hangeng followed their step. If SME lost & have to pay lots of money to the boys, the stocks will be worthless. The buyers will face financial loss.
Till this June, DBSK still under Avex, that is mean that SME still have profits from Avex, but for the next half year, all the income will purely come from Suju, SNSD, f(x), Shinee & others. In this time we will see the real effect SME lost DBSK, since the boys had contributed more than half of SME’s income. That is why SME push SNSD to go to Japan, hope they could cover at least half of it.
If I do have lots of money better buy Avex’s stocks instead of SME’s

i agree with you, avex contributed to SME’s income for the 1st half of the yr, their contract didnt expire till like april (i think)~ SME still got a fair share of thsk’s best selection album, which sold LOADS! also, the concert DVDs etc.
i think that the stocks for SME will carrying on dropping, i mean, although their other artists r popular, but they do not sell as much as dbsk, and also, concerts, as concerts makes a lot of money…..
i just hate how SME is sort of boasting abt how much money they have etc. when they r being sued “partly” because of them taking too much of the profit…. O_o

Oh God. At least there is someone who rationally pointed out that this was just a statement from an investment institution and not of SM sticking its tongue out at fans.
If a company loses its most profitable asset, of course the stocks will drop, but that also represents a good opportunity to invest. And truth is SM is still one of the most successful and solvent companies in Korea. People will grasp on the opportunity and try and buy stocks. It’s just a natural financial cycle.
And while I agree that SM will lose a considerably large percentage of profit now that DBSK is on hiatus, I doubt it will harm the company on the long run. After all, there is already a new generation of consumers, who just like Cassiopeias did 7 years ago and Shinhwa Changjos did 9 years ago, do not care about SM’s ethics and continue to support the groups it produces.
I went off-topic again. Never mind. And before anyone shoots me, I’m not neither an SM nor a JYJ supporter. I just wanted to point out that the article is simply quoting Daewoo’s statement on how solvent the SM is. That’s it.

Yeah I agree with Kur4tinc. I kinda understand why this statement is bragged up at this moment. And I can say that this is a simple thing for them to do. But, well at the very last line of 2nd paragraph it’s kinda too full of themselve to me.
Let wait and see their income in the next half year. And then we will see without the boys how far could they go, really. I didn’t underestimate SME and I believe that the still up come with a great number of their income. They still have SUJU and all but I personally think that without the boys it’s definitely be their greatest lost ever.
Anyway, I just all five of them happy with their own choices. Leave or stay I believe it doesn’t matter anymore at least for me. And this is all about what the boys should get from their hard work. I say this so many times and I’m saying it again as long as they happy I’m happy.

Im sure SM needs money for alot of things, but this article implies that they have enough to easily pay off the three’s compensation suit. If this is the case, then get on with it: release them from their contracts, pay a settlement value, and be done. It will be money well spent if it forgoes the legal fees that have to be piling up with the continuation of this suit. End point, if they make this much, relatively speaking, they can do without that couple million to be rid of the problem.
That’s just my take on it.

1) if Im not wrong till this day shinee album sales did not even reach 100000 copies plus they will be facing big bang, se7en and 2NE1
2) boa is no longer doing good in Japan her last album did not sell that much and Im not sure how well she will do in Korea since she was not active in Korea for all most 5 years now plus she will be also facing big bang, se7en and 2NE1
3) Im more than 100% sure that snsd debut single in Japan will not sale that much I will be shocked if they sold more than 40000 copies

In that case, SME artists will be vying for CF deals with many other artists and advertisers only want who’s “hot” at the moment. There are only so many companies with advertising dollars that want idol spokespersons as opposed to actors or regular looking people. Those coveted CF deals will be spread among artists from all management companies and usually the ones with the most clout and popularity in the industry at the time will get them. SNSD will definitely get a few CFs but YG artists will probably gain a bigger piece of advertising $$.

You got it right ! Nowadays, album sale is not the most profitable business. Concert, TV commercial , Merchandising, Photobook are the key revenue drivers.
I think SNSD may have a chance to doing well in Japan, Taeyeong, Jessica, Sunny can really sing and they got pretty faces and long legs. Actually , their standard are much better than many Japanese girl group.

Even if SHINee manages to scrape by with a few CFs, the bigger picture is that there are a lot of strong and charismatic idols coming out in the latter half of this year so SM’s share of the advertising dollar will be lower.

i don’t like the other groups of SME except the DBSK boys and Shinwha
but I think SUJU & Shinee are hard workers and some of them have real talents, but when compared with other idols nowadays like Big Bang, 2ne1, Wonder girls, 2PM, their talents are just average
and I think all SM groups have the same “slave contract” of 10-13 years, and their incomes are poor than what they deserved. But none of them have the power to stand up like our jyj did. Except Hangeng, cause he still have the china market to continue his career, as jyj have Japan. But the other Suju members, snsd and shinee members, same with cjsh members, are all powerless against SME, if they stand up and filed lawsuit as jyj, their careers will be destroyed completely in korea.
Look at Kibum, SM freezing his music career, maybe he loves acting more than singing but still his acting career is very limited, and I think he has more potential and can do better if he’s not in chain with a SM contract.
sme is loosing alot money, cause suju M will not doing that great without hangeng, they are pushing snsd to japan to have japanese yen income, but snsd will fail as money maker, cause they are nowhere near the popularity of other `hallyu´stars like big bang, 2ne1, not to mention the huge competition with girl groups AKB48, morning musume …
somehow i pity those sme artists, they have no rights to stand up, even their situations are worst than our boys ( i think their incomes are alot poorer than dbsk boys and we know how much money sme has eaten up from dbsk)

I think it’s great that SME has a huge cash reserve because they can actually pay off the lawsuit if/when they lose.
At the same time, I am very wary of Daewoo Securities’ statements because I feel they only looked at two things: that stock prices went down and second quarter artist activities will go up. They assume that it’s a good time to buy SM stocks because prices are low and are likely to climb due to increased output. The only thing is, I’m not as enthusiastic about the profitability of SM in the second quarter. Take a look at the artist lineup:
SHINee domestic activities: They’re nowhere near the popularity of Suju and SNSD. Even then, Suju and SNSD only managed 100K+ album sales. I predict 50-70K for SHINee.
BoA domestic activities: Solo artists don’t sell that well in Korea anymore. Look at the recent Hanteo and see what Rain and Hyori sold.
Girls Generation’s Japanese activities: Universal Japan’s Korean artists don’t have a good track record of selling much albums. I really hope that my 9 girls break this pattern!
Super Junior M’s Chinese activities: Without Geng? Well, stay optimistic I suppose :/
Finally, let’s not forget these YG’s artists that are planning to dominate the second half of the year: Taeyang, Big Bang, 2NE1 and…SE7EN!!!

But bottom line: SNSD is just starting out in Japan. Universal and SM will be pouring a lot of money into their promotions and very little chance of seeing profits unless the fanbase grows. Even then, they’ll have to rely on album sales and not CF money because this is Japan, not their hometown. The bullish predictions for SM’s earnings in the second half of the year is unrealistic.

damn rich bast@ard!!!!!!!! =+= selfish as hell!! damn its AT LEAST 50 million in USD beside SM has other stuffs like connection and profits from other sources too O_Oand im VErY sure dBSK made up 50% of that 50 mil USD because Avex is way bigger than SM and Jap currency is higher too and DBSK already made up 40% of Avex’s income PLUS DBSK is not the super senior of the compnay while in SM the are prob the big big senior of the whole staffs (beside BoA)!!!! Therefore they deserve more than 3 bil won!!!!!!!!!!!

DBSK were like the ones who brought them..i dont know half their money.. and they have the nerve to tell them SM’s gonna do just well without the dong bang boys? please.. i suggest you guys search for the video in YT where DBSK were the MOST VALUABLE ARTISTS for 2008 and 2009 respectively, they brought like 105M USD to korea by 2009..
