On the 28th, Lawyer Lim Sang Hyuk of Sejong stated, “We have asked that SM Entertainment pay each member one billion Won first. The amount we file for compensation will increase but ten billion Won, which is the amount reported in some news articles, is a false report. We have not yet decided upon a final compensation amount.”

Earlier on yesterday, there were reports spread through online media that the three members side demanded SM Entertainment to pay compensation for about 10 – 30 billion won regarding the unreasonable income which is one of the clause in their lawsuit.

I wonder, who is the one spread the rumor at the first place. The boys deserve to have maybe much more than that for all they had done but I hope the news won’t cause another judgement for them (greedy, selfish, etc).

don’t mind that kind of things
those who think they are greedy and selfish will think that no matter how much the ask for compensation

Seriously! AKP writers always have to add their lame opinions to their articles. “Seemingly-unfair contract”? Unfair is unfair, nothing seemingly about it. And “demanding such an overwhelming amount of cash”? Wtf AKP? South Korea is not some dirt poor country. $2.5 million dollars is how much good plastic surgeons and ibank managing directors make in one year, let alone 3 international stars with years in the industry and millions of albums sold.

i was JUST on akp defending the boys against the haters
the comments there can either make you feel warm to the toes
or really gnaw at your face
people can be so ignorant & jump to conlusions about the boys being greedy
one billion or ten billion; they deserve it all
its the money they shouldve gotten with or without the lawsuit
By: Evelynn on June 29, 2010

i reckon the article was more neutral than the other ones…
AKP is full of little kids (no offense), half of them usually just jumps on the bandwagon, the other half don’t really care about DBSK (coz they’re new fans or simply fans of another groups), but ofc there are people who do think before they comment (which is a pretty small number IMO), so yea, i won’t get too worked out over those comments lol haters gonna hate anw
i think fans gave up commenting and arguing the same thing over and over again lmao

1 billion won is more like US$800,000. Considering what celebrities get paid here for one movie or one album, that is chump change.
By: derp on June 29, 2010
at 7:42 am
1 USD = 1,205.26 KRW
1 Billion Won = 829,694.49 USD
This is too little compare to what they should have been piad for their work through out 5 years of their career.
.
.
That’s about the price hollywood pay for a B-list supporting actor.
$2.5 Million is still reasonable anyway..
TVXQ is one of the stars that make the highest $$ in Korea entertainment industry for many consecutive years. Can the AKP people do a calculation?

ah………. so sad…. our tvxq members have worked ceaselessly for the last 7 years, and they do not deserve even 10 billion won? They have earned SM more than 90 billion won, but they cannot get even 1/9 of it? And people say the members are greedy because they want the just part of the money they themselves worked that hard? They had only one week~10 day vacation each year, and flew from Korea-Japan-China-Thailand all over the world.. And all the money fans spent to buy their goods, if the money is not given to the members, were we fans donating to SM??? How can a fan call them greedy??? How can anybody blame them when the members ask the payment they deserve to receive?????? I really do not get the people who can dare call JYJ greedy!!! I wish they receive more than 10billion from SM!

It’s easy to see that the courts felt like their contracts were illegal (they basically won the first case for the supension of exclusive contract) to the point where JYJ feel comfortable to file for compensations. I mean JYJ have great future projects coming ahead and it seems like HoMin is waiting in the dust. Do you guys believe HoMin is satisfied with how SM is handling their careers? I guess my question is now what’s really holding HoMin back?? and I’m kind of scare to find out.
By: CeCe on June 29, 2010
at 9:04 am
I think we will never find out the reason why HoMin choose to stay in SME, I believe they have a very strong reason.
They satisfied or not, we never know, we only the outsider.

fyi
FACTS:
In Year 2009 alone, TVXQ made 6500 million yen…(excluding income in Korea)
In year 2008, TVXQ made the highest income in Korea entertianment industry.
From 2004, they have held several highest sold albums, singles and concert tickets.
.
.
BUT…
Below is what the court has presented as the content of the members’ contracts. The contract has been modified 5 times since their debut, so this is the overall review.
1. TVXQ has received $0 from their album sales till July 2008, and a very small amount after.
2. TVXQ has received $0 from sales of concert DVD’s and albums with recordings from concerts.
3. TVXQ received $0 from their appearances in TV programs.
4. For other ways of getting profit, SM subtracts the total amount with all the expenses that the company has paid for them, including clothing, salary of company staff, stage preparation, rent, food expenses, and etc., which only leaves a fraction for the members of TVXQ.
…
They should have raised their voice long ago! A superstar in my little country can earn a hell lot more than this.
.
.
Actually, JYJ risk their life to this lawsuit at the first stage. Nobody knows whether they could win. If they lose the case, they will have to work for a wholelife to pay for the compensation.
However….the heaven has got clean eyes…and granted them little freedom to acheive their music inpiration. (Full of joy…their own kind music is super cool!)
I personally believe that JYJ just want the fairness and earn the freedom to enrich their music passion.
BUT I think that they deserve more than they have asked for.
By: nikki on June 29, 2010
at 9:12 am
I’m agree with you. If you count all the songs that they had composed, they deserve more than 10 Billion won. SME asked their artists to compose songs but all the royalties belong to SME & the artists got nothing.
I really hope that the court will be on the boys’s side.
By: Kur4tinc on June 29, 2010

I was not so angry about the 15yrs contract until I read about how SS501 has a 5 yr contract and still includes overseas venture.
Yes. Now I seriously feel that 15 yrs is freaking long.
Go fighters, JaeChunSu!
Side note: read that Hyunjoong left DSP. Hmm, the 2 boybands that lead me to kpop are in banding woes. At least he’s not in a lawsuit. >.<
By: rachui on June 29, 2010
at 9:41 am
And I seriously think SM should have promoted their self-composed songs. In taiwan and japan, individuality is important! If you are a composer, bam(!), added values. But in Korea, it doesn’t seems so. I seriously think part of their ‘getting out of SM’ is due to their composing rights. I wonder if they do get royalties for their own works.
By: rachui on June 29, 2010
at 9:52 am
SME didn’t pay for all the songs they had composed & the royalties are belong to SME. I think this one is also part of the reasons why they fill in the lawsuit at the first time.
By: Kur4tinc on June 29, 2010
at 10:03 am
If they don’t even get what their own works then SM is not fit to be a music company then. (well, we all know anyway.) Sometimes I do feel sad about the recognition of composers and lyricist in Korea. I’m just comparing Korea and Taiwan. As much as the ones getting the awards in Taiwan are popular ones, at least they do recognize composer-singer artistes. What do we have in Korea? Companies who compressed talents and award shows that’s based on popularity.
Sorry for the rambling, just that I feel kinda injustice for their composing efforts.
By: rachui on June 29, 2010
at 10:55 am
It’s sad but that is the reality. In Taiwan, the public really acknowledge their multi talented artists such as Jay Chou & Lee Hom, not because their popularity but also because their multi talented as singer, composer, producer & actor.
In Korea, if you hiatus even only for 1 year, you have to start from zero since the public kind of forgetting about your existance, unless you really have a talent not just base on popularity.
Right now I’m kind of tired to follow KPop since all the package (style, song & dance) quite similar one & another. Not to mentioned they also push their luck in Japan with their poor or standard qualities.
Sorry for the rambling.

Agree.
Mayday regrouped after army and still as good as ever.
Arashi, SMAP… dramas and albums, still there.
Once DBSK went to Japan, all of their news vanished from Korea.
Non-SNSD fans wouldnt know that Seohyun plays the piano. (TBH, I was surprised when I saw a clip of it.)
Non-DBSK fans wouldnt know the five guys composed, plays instruments and had a dream of becoming a band for one of the performance. (I just saw this on one of the older interviews.)
………….. I love them!! lol.

1 billion Won is approximately 830 million USD. That’s already way more than most- if not all- major American artists are worth. If they got more than that the next couple generations of their family line would never have to work!
I don’t think that they’re greedy, it’s all about being fair. It’s just too bad that Yunho and Changmin won’t get anything
