Lol, yeah sometimes. Honestly though, I’ve never felt like I had to compare the two. DBSK will always be my number one, but at the same time I support Big Bang and 2PM etc. I didn’t feel the least bit upset that BB won. Maybe it’s because I’ve started to accept that there probably won’t be a lot of DBSK in the future, so I’ve gotta let all the bitterness and stuff go (it’s hella hard though D=).

They won because they rock. Seriously. Koe wo Kikasete was an AMAZING song, and even though the video was pretty simple, I really liked it. And I love Gara Gara Go, even if the video takes a bit of getting used too (especially Jiyong’s hat and hair – but his eccentricities is what made me love him xP). It was really flashy and techno-y, but it went with the song and was super fun.

i think that question doesn’t need an answer.
I don’t reject other artists and their works, it’s just unfair btw DBSK/THSK and BB. DBSK/THSK’ve got really hard to get into J-pop. They performed in the small stage with just 100 audiences or sth.
And with BB, wow… they hadn’t performed in such places like THSK. They perform in awards only and yeah, performed Music Station when they got no rank in Oricon chart. I can’t see the thing called ” hard-working” from them.
The door to get into J-pop is opened by BoA and esp. THSK.But what we need is hard-work from the artists. THSK is adored in Japan because they’re really really hard-working. With BB, well,… what did they do in Japan? LOL. It’s like a big ZERO compare to THSK.
Ha~ Such a long speech lol. Whatever, I don’t to make a fuss here. I just advice you to not mention THAT MUCH about your other favorite artists.

I totally get what you mean. I always defend Tohoshinki when people compare them to all the new Kpop artists that are trying to break into the Japanese market (like recently with 4minute), and I always get really angry when people call them a Hallyu Star (especially in places like Arama where a lot of the people don’t know how hard they worked to make it in Japan).
And truthfully, I only follow Big Bang’s music (not their shows and stuff). The reason why them winning these awards doesn’t upset me is because I’ve always felt like no korean artist can ever reach the height of popularity that DBSK has reached in Japan. They practically BECAME japanese. But at least BB’s trying, and not just converting all their korean songs into Japanese. I think they deserve SOME credit. I still stan DBSK like crazy, and I believe that they really did open up the gateway for korean artists in japan, but others need some recognition too.

I just watched Koe wo kikasete from BB. The song itself was ok. The music video on the otherside was very good, especially from the begining. So you got wow from the begining of the mv but then you forget that wow as the movie draws closer to the end, because the wow does not continue throughout the movie. THSK’s Survivor beats that video to my way of thinking(pov).
I also think that STW would have been great if that swimming business had looked one bit real. But it didn’t, combined with the fake flying it destroyed the nice idea that the mv had (Because the begining was also very good, promising, but..).

I guess it’s all comes down to a difference in opinion. I really liked the song (though Haru Haru was MUCH better – but then again, it wasn’t Japanese). I don’t think the video was trying to tell a story like in Survivor (which, lol, I didn’t completely get). I liked the setting- it gave an artsy and mellow feel to the song. Survivor was an upbeat dance-type song, so it’s hard to compare.
I personally didn’t like the STW video at all. The part where they kept walking towards the camera was really repetitive. And the graphics sucked. There weren’t even nice shots of the boys laughing and having fun together (like in Step By Step). But I still love them to death, so either way I’m just happy they won xD

yeah i thought it was an ok song too. it has a nice tempo n melody but it felt out of place with bb music n jpop. its a mix but not exactly fitting into any of the two. n no offense to bb fans but thier vocals arent the best. the chorus with daesung voice was rather bland even though its my favorite part lol. i felt annoyed how top n gd were rapping in english >.< i hope bb properly learn japanese.

@lily – I respect your opinion, but I just wanna say that the awards were for the music VIDEO, not the song. And yeah, their vocals aren’t amazing, but they aren’t bad either. And I’ve always felt like Daesung had a nice voice =/
They do need to improve their japanese, and I hope they do, but that aside, there’s nothing wrong with rapping in English. A lot of korean singers do that! Chun rapped in English in Shelter (not very well, mind you – still LOVE that song though).

This just prove that despite all the current situation DBSK is still highly appreciated. That’s what I think. I don’t care if other K-artis won more awards coz we all know how hard DBSK has worked to reach this stage. I think now adays in Japan itself, they treat DBSK like they are a true Japanese, that’s what I notice and honestly this prove that Japanese love them. Unlike other foreign artist who are still treated like ‘foreign artists’ DBSK means much more to Japanese public. They appear in Japanese gossip magazine just like any other Japanese celebrity, it’s another prove that Tohoshinki/DBSK has blend into J-pop culture perfectly and completely. What amaze me is they still don’t loose their Korean character/personality. When they go back to Korea, they become Korean DBSK which is in some ways different from Japan’s Tohoshinki. All in all, DBSK and Tohoshinki is one of a kind artist!
